Ash Meliki Shoup-MelbourneMeliki sometimes performs as Meliki Pana in combinations of unplugged solo, duo or trio as well as an electric trio. See them live’n loud or chillin’ & unplugged, the pana has the same infectious drive. Pana in Latin America refers to friends which reflects the organic way players on electric and acoustic guitar, drumkit, latin/hand percussion or backing vocals/harmonies are added from time to time. When solo Meliki creates her own percussion accompaniment from the guitar while in an electric trio she moves onto bass. Blend of lively latin/roots rhythms with a fusion of country, folk, roots, rock and pop melodies. Female vocals played with fingerstyle acoustic guitar solo and guitar-percussion on loop pedal. Powered trio incorporates vocals/harmonies, electric guitar, bass and drums. Much of Meliki’s influences came while growing up in Australia to a regular dose of western songs peppered with exotic music CDs of popular indigenous artists sent from her American based family who lived, studied and worked in Hawaii, Brazil, Cuba, Ethiopia and other countries rich in musical culture. When she took up playing instruments she leaned towards the nylon string guitar to study composers from these foreign shores while developing a strong foothold in contemporary jazz and popular music improvising on piano and bass. In her teens she travelled to many of these places and absorbed the unique feel that makes these rhythms resonate worldwide.

Sam Willoughby-MelbourneSam Willoughby’s bow has many strings. He has worked as a singer and bassist with some great Australian artists including Broderick Smith (The Dingoes) , John Schumann (Redgum) and Bill Chambers (Kasey Chambers). He is also an accomplished singer and guitarist and this is his greatest love, to sing and play good songs. This gift has taken him on a roller coaster ride throughout Australia, Europe and British Columbia Canada performing his own original material and gathering an extensive repertoire of fine songs. His love of great songs is evident not only in his varied repertoire, but also in the refreshing individuality and passion with which each song is sung. From stompbox and harmonica driven blues and roots to soulful grooves, country, jazz and pop, there is a song for everyone in the room. |
